2011 Polo GTi = Hot!

The first photos and details have been released of the new 2011 Volkswagen Polo GTi.  The fifth generation hot hatch will appear as both a three- and five-door when it gets its official unveiling in Geneva next month. Engineers used both the twin-charged 1.4-litre TSI engine and seven-speed DSG transmission from the Seat Ibiza Cupra.  With steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters on the GTi, like the Spanish car, the engine utilizes a supercharger from idle to 3000rpm at which point the turbo kicks in providing 132kWat 6200rpm and 249Nm of torque from 2000rpm.  They’re claiming 0-100km/h in 6.9-seconds with a top speed of 229km/h.  Ride height has been dropped by 15mm, so the 17-inch wheels will look a bit snug.  Stiffer springs make the suspension tighter and the car will feature the same XDS differential as the Cupra, which electronically replicates a limited slip diff. The Polo GTi has a black honeycomb grille ringed in red, dual tailpipes (conjoined on the left side, instead of on opposite sides), a flat-bottom steering wheel, and plaid cloth.  LED daytime lights may be included.  This all sounds awesome, but it also sounds like it will be rather pricey and out of the hands of it’s intended target market.

  2. No word as yet, but VW always seem to surpise us. When they tell us they will be launched on a cartain date, people are seen driving them a few weeks beforehand anyway. Lets hope they’re here soon, butthen again, there’s no guarantee that we’ll even get them here.

  9. This car is beatiful i must say – will love it most with panaromic sunroof. the front bumper doesnt look complete sportish – what are the chances of some touch ups. also put xenon for the fog lights. and lastly change the interior to look more like a spor car – and should not look anything like the current polo gti

The new polo as it is is very disaaponting – the car is ugle , small and does not have any dignity

  10. Ok I am confused, it is the 1.4TSI motor already available in the polo and golf but with a DSG, where does the other 24kw come from??
