The structural modifications that the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta underwent have earned the vehicle a Top Safety Pick + award. The model in question has received the rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The German automaker had earlier reinforced the A-pillars and door sills of the 2015 Jetta, which has helped in the vehicle’s top rating on the small overlap test conducted by the institute.
While last year the Jetta scored “Marginal”, for 2015 the car’s rank went up to “Good.” The tests conducted demonstrated that the side airbag deployed and safeguarded the head of the dummy from elements within the vehicle and outside, despite the fact that the head moved forward sliding off the airbag.
Besides this, there are other areas too where the 2015 Jetta scored high such as, roof strength tests, moderate overlap front crashes, head restraints and seats, and side crashes.
In addition, the optional forward collision warning system of the model helped it earn the “+” title after the Top Safety Pick designation.
The highest distinction of IIHS can be qualified only if the vehicle offers some kind of front crash protection along with earning “Good” ratings in all tests. This is excluding the small overlap test, where the car must score at least “Acceptable.”
Coming to the Volkswagen models, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI cars have also earned ratings of TSP+ from the IIHS. Besides, some of the competitors of Jetta, like the 2014 Honda Civic and 2014 Mazda3, have also earned the honor.
