It has been a common practice with Volkswagen and many other European automakers to launch new vehicles first in their home market in Europe before bringing them to the United States. This was seen even in the case of the seventh-generation Golf, which reached the US as a 2015 model, whereas it debuted in Europe at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
Now Volkswagen enthusiasts in the United States might be assuming that the slick and smooth version of the new 2015 Volkswagen Passat which marked its debut at the ongoing 2014 Paris Motor Show will reach the US showrooms in another year or two. However, the fact is that the new 2015 Volkswagen Passat is not coming to the United States.
This is really a shame because despite being conservative, the Passat is a gorgeous and smart car. Coming with a stylish appearance like CC, the new Passat is built on MQB architecture of Volkswagen. This makes the car bit lighter than its predecessor.
The new Passat gets its powertrain options including 1.4-, 1.8-, and 2.0-liter gasoline engines of turbocharged four-cylinder. In addition, it also boasts of 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesel engine displacements. Moreover, the 215-horsepower Passat GTE is also there with a capacity to operate as an EV for over 31 miles. Not only this, the Plug-in GTE will also be available as a sexy wagon variant called as the Variant.
The Passat GTE is Volkswagen’s foremost plug-in hybrid in the body style of the Saloon and Estate. The plug-in hybrid is a combination of TSI engine and electric motor that allows maximum power output of 218 PS. The car has a driving range of over 600 miles with 31 miles on the all-electric E-mode.
