Beetle R in the Pipeline…?

With the recent release of the much anticipated 2012 Beetle at the Shanghai, New York and Berlin World Stage Event, there have already been talks and speculation about an even sportier Beetle R. An artist rendering of the Beetle R by Luis Baston of Kane Design shows the much more masculine shape and sporty features.

Aside from talks about a Beetle R, there is also reported to be a Beetle Cabriolet due for release in the summer of 2011 as a 2013 model, although nothing has been confirmed at the moment. Car and Driver magazine is reporting that the Beetle R would probably contain a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine that develops 199 Kw / 266 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The Beetle as it is comes with an improved hard top, panoramic sunroof, more legroom, GPS navigation and a Fender audio system, as well as increased luggage space in the boot.
