Go Ultra Economical With Your Driving

0

Do you ever find that your car is costing you a fortune? If it’s not the fuel, it’s the insurance, and if it’s not the insurance, it’s the maintenance. You might think that you only spend a couple hundred on your car each month. But depending on how much petrol you use, how economical your car is and how often you take it in for repairs, it could be closer to a few thousand. That’s an issue and one that you can rectify quite simply. If you know how your car works, you’ll be able to avoid the costs that are making it a massive expense.

Easy On The Brakes

Braking takes a lot more power and this, in turn, uses a lot more fuel. The more you brake, the more you’ll find that your tank is draining quicker than you’d expect it to. This is where economical driving comes in handy. Rather than braking, just make sure that you are doing it as little as possible. Ideally, you should be able to avoid braking by being aware of your surroundings. If you look ahead, you’ll know when you’re going to have to stop and can take your foot off the pedal early rather than braking. A quick warning would be that this will often immensely frustrate the people behind you as braking gives a sign someone is slowing down. A gradual decrease in speed doesn’t.

Careful Of Those Tyres

You should be checking your tyres each time you drive. A quick kick will tell you whether they have enough air. If you don’t have enough air in your tyres, they use more fuel, so you need to keep them at the right pressure level. The other possibility to consider is wheel alignment and tyre balancing. The importance of regular wheel alignment and tyre balancing is that it will keep the car safe and economical. If your car is drifting to one side, this could mean there is a problem here. When this happens, it takes more energy from the engine to keep your car on the right track.

Anything On In The Car

Anything switched on in the car does use more fuel and therefore drains the tank quickly, costing you more money. There are some people who try to drive with their lights off until it’s absolutely necessary to switch them on. That’s nonsense because the amount of fuel they use is fractional. However, if you’re charging your phone or powering a satnav, you’ll typically find it uses a lot more. This is something to think about when you’re purchasing a vehicle with all the gizmos and gadgets.

Reduce Weight

Last but not least, you may want to think about reducing weight in your car. A lot of people carry around insanely heavy amounts of gear in the trunk and the back of their car. It’s understandable to want some sort of kit for emergencies but the heavier your car is, the more fuel it uses. Cutting down the weight will lead to fantastic savings.

We hope you use these ideas to ensure that your car isn’t costing you a fortune in fuel.
