The heated up station wagons do get driving enthusiasts charged up as it satisfies their urge in terms of speed and challenge the mainstream car culture, especially as seen in the US.
By far, the German automakers here are gaining prominence in the race along with few other exceptions such as General Motor’s Cadillac CTS-V and Holden Commodore SS-V wagons. Besides, there is also the recent Jaguar’s XFR-S Sportbrake.
Now it seems Germany has even more to offer as German automaker Volkswagen was caught in camera while having tests in a Golf R Estate near Nurburgring. Spy cameras caught Volkswagen’s performance Estate and photographed it. The Golf R Estate boasts of a boot capacity of 605 liters when the rear seats are up and of 1620 liters when they are down.
A production version is also on the block that will share groundwork of the Golf R hatch with four-wheel drive and 2.0-liter turbocharged engine of 296bhp. Being fitted with a DSG transmission, the production version would run up to 100km/h from standstill in just 4.9 seconds. The car would take 5.1 seconds from standstill when fitted with a 6sp stick shift.
