Replacing the Springs and Adjusting Suspension on your VW – Part 4

In the first 3 parts of this series, we learnt how to remove the struts in order to adjust the suspension on the car from the front. Here is what you will have to do to get at the rear strut and springs. This is much easier than doing the front of the car.

  • You simply jack up the car and remove the wheels.
  • You will need to remove the 2 top shock bolts. If there is an HID, again, undo little arm.
  • Then you just have to remove the bolt at the end of the control arm.  Be careful when you do this because the pressure will cause the suspension to snap to the ground.
  • Now you can remove and replace the springs.

Now you have a car with an adjusted suspension and new springs. Always check the alignment after letting things settle for about 200 to 300 miles (480km) just to ensure that all is in order with your Vdub.
