We earlier reported that the VW Passat for North America is getting a facelift in 2015. Now it is reported that the German automaker is manufacturing a brand-new generation of Passat named B8 for 2015 for Europe and other world markets.
The brand new model will use modular MQB platform of Volkswagen and will be mechanically similar to the Golf.
The car, at the moment, is covered under the wraps and details of its styling direction followed by the company is still undisclosed. However, a modification of its B7 model launched earlier is definitely expected in terms of design.
It is expected that the 2015 Passat is going to be the biggest car till now to use MQB technology. Together with the MQB architecture and other measures, the car is likely to help reduce weight by over 100kg.
The engine-lineup will come with turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline as well as diesel units. This will be added with combining cylinder shutdown and start-stop system that will help improve efficiency. Additionally, a plug-in hybrid version as well as a performance version with six-cylinder unit and all-wheel drive is likely to get introduced soon.
The new European Passat B8 model will most probably debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show if not at the Paris Motor Show this fall.
In 2013, the Passat family emerged as the fifth globally best-selling VW brand model.
