With the new Volkswagen Polo GTI all set to go on sale next year, the German automaker reveals its technical information and images for the Volkswagen enthusiasts. The car features a new engine along with fine styling twists and a manual gearbox of six-speed.
With all the new features, VW Polo GTI is placed as an upmarket hot hatch class vehicle. In fact, this makes the car look more conventional as compared to models like the Ford Fiesta ST and the Renault Sport Clio.
As customary, the new Polo GTI possesses a pint-sized look of the Volkswagen Golf GTI with its flash of red being added alongside the grille. Besides, a sporty front bumper and a subtle GTI badge also add to that look. This is for the first time that the Polo GTI will come with full LED headlights. If you look at the profile, the big alloy wheels and badges on the wings are the features that distinguish the new GTI from the normal Polo. On the other hand, if you look from the back, it is just the large twin exhaust pipes along with the GTI badge that separate it from the normal GTI.
In terms of interiors, the car gets GTI tartan upholstery and a steering wheel of leather-trim with stitching marked in red.
Though the automaker has not yet released the figures pertaining to fuel economy and CO2 emissions, but power to the new Polo GTI will come from a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 192bhp. As compared to the old model, the new GTI produces 12bhp more. The car takes 6.7 seconds for 0-62mph and its tops speed is 146mph.
The older model was available only with a DSG automatic gearbox, but the new car has a choice of either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. So along with the fully automatic mode, you have the option of changing manually too.
Above all, the Polo GTI comes with a Sport Performance Kit, which allows a choice of preset modes for accelerator and steering of the car. The car also boasts of a Sport Select Suspension allowing a choice between different suspension settings. These feature allow you to adjust the Polo for easy and sporty driving.
The price of the new GTI is yet to be revealed by the automaker. However it is expected to be close to £20,000. The car is most likely to be introduced to the public at the Paris Motor Show next month.
