Volkswagen is all set to establish new standards in electric cars section with the introduction of the electric versions of the Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Up cars. These two electric cars will be showcased in the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
The Volkswagen Golf is backed by 113bhp electric motor with the power to carry the car at 62mph in just about 10.4 seconds. The top speed of the Golf is 87mph, with the capacity to go 118 miles in one charge, which makes is really good for city driving. In fact, the Golf has been introduced with the aim to market it amongst the town and city drivers. The best part, as per the company sources, is that the Golf can be charged very quickly as 80 per cent of the car is charged at just half an hour’s time.
On the other hand, the Volkswagen Up has a smaller motor of 80bhp as compared to Golf. With a shorter range of 99 miles in one charge, the Up takes 0-62mph in 12.4 seconds.
Talking about changing techniques, both e-Golf and e-Up can be charged with a standard and fast charging sockets. Both the cars have two driving modes namely, Eco and Eco+ -. Additionally they have four braking-regeneration modes for best range offer.
The Volkswagen Up is expected to go on sale in March 2014 with the Golf following in the latter half of the year. The prices of the two cars will be announced soon after unveiling at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The e-Up is expected to be slightly higher in price as compared to the current Volkswagen Up, which is available at around £15,000. The e-Golf is expected to start above £ 20,000.
In addition, the company is also considering funding options and hence leasing packages of the car as well as the battery are under consideration.
