In its world debut, Volkswagen launched its New Midsize Coupe concept (NMC), at the Auto China 2014 in Beijing. Overall, the car looks like a coupe-like sedan and is placed between the Passat and Jetta models.
The vehicle with its 4,597 mm length and 1,838 mm width is shorter as compared to the C-segment Jetta, whereas it is larger than the D-segment Passat. Besides, the height of the NMC at 1,422 mm is also less than both the standard sedans.
The vehicle receives Volkswagen Group’s modular MQB technology along with other features like newly introduced VW design boss as well as front end design. It also comes with a complex grille, 3D-effect LED headlights and a detailed lower air intake. Additionally, the show wheels are 22-inch wide and the highlights are of body matching
‘Dragon Red’ color.
The side profile of the NMC has the design of cab-backwards like that of a coupe, which is gained by using a long bonnet. To create further effect, there is the sweeping C-pillar and a short boot lid. The car also comes with fancy LED rear lights and dual tailpipes.
The car runs on its 2.0 liter Golf GTI’s turbocharged TSI engine and is matched with a gearbox of seven-speed DSG dual-clutch. The car can get to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and the top speed that can be reached is up to 244 km/h.
As per the German car maker, the interior of the NMC as shown in design sketches so far is practical as well as sporty. The car offers enough space for five with a liberal 500 liter boot.
A production version of the model is expected to be well under way.
