2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI at first glance to everybody would give a thought that it is an Audi’s adaption of the A1’s platform for all-wheel drive, but you would have to give it a second thought. Although the A1 and the Polo share the same platform, Volkswagen did not apply the technology for an all-wheel-drive variant of the CrossPolo or a hotter Polo R. And now this hot chic is all set to bring fire to markets of Malaysia. Yes that’s right!!! Volkswagen Group Malaysia has launched the Polo GTI at the Sepang International Circuit, in union with the Scirocco R-Cup one-make race taking place there over the weekend.
The latest debuted Mk5 has got with it both three-door and five-door option, with both variants having same specifications and features. The Germany imported Polo GTI is in its fifth generation with more power, more pace and better fuel efficiency than the previous 2010 Volkswagen Polo GTI. 2011 VW Polo GTI features a twin-charged 1.4 litre TSI unit that delivers 180 PS at 6,200 rpm and 250 Nm at 2,000-4,500 rpm.
The latest Mk5 to make it even better has a seven-speed Direct Shift Gearbox transmission including an XDS electronic transverse differential lock. Performance figures for the 1,269 kg hatch comprise of 6.9 seconds 0-100 kph time with a speed of 229 kph. Pretty impressing figures aren’t they? And here’s the jackpot. MK5 is claiming a less fuel consumption of 5.9 liters/100 km as compared to its ancestor MK4 which used 7.9 liters/100km.
You can buy the three-door Polo GTI for RM 132,888, and the five-door Polo GTI for RM 135,888.
