Volkswagen Talking about a Touareg R Hybrid

After the successful introduction of the new Touareg SUV into the market, Volkswagen is talking about yet another introduction – the Touareg R Hybrid. This version will combine the souped-up R designation with a hybrid drivetrain which is normally unheard of. The new Touareg is on the drawing board at the moment and is supposed to combine an ordinary gas gulping V8 with an electric motor.

No new technologies will be developed for this, but rather some fine tuning of the current technologies which will bring the V8 up to 500 horsepower. The electric motor will be stripped and copied from the 3.0 V6 TFSI which produces47 horsepower and can ensure about 50 km/h in electric mode.

It is not yet certain how this electric motor will be used in the R version of the Touareg, but this would definitely be a car to fill a gap in the market, where there are only 2 R models in the market, namely the Scirocco and the Golf. The SUV introduction into the R models will give VW a presence in a new market.
