VW readies Beetle for the Red Bull Rallycross Series by beefing it up with over 560HP

Volkswagen promises a no-nonsense racing model with its new Andretti Rallycross GRC Beetle. Some might find the color-scheme of the new model uninspiring, but with its all-wheel drive and over 560-hp TSI turbo engine, the new GRC Beetle is going to be a great hit.

The model made its world premiere on February 6 at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show. The model, which has been conceived by Volkswagen of America and Andretti Sports Marketing, is set to participate in the Red Bull Global Rallycross series. The series will be driven by the GRC champion of 2011 and 2012 – Tanner Foust, and ex-F1 and NASCAR champion – Scott Speed.

According to Michael Horn, CEO of the VW Group of America, “Red Bull Global Rallycross is the perfect form of motor sports for a youthful, exuberant, and growing brand in the U.S. market. We’re excited to partner with Andretti Autosport, one of the great names in American motor sports, and delighted that we will be running the iconic Beetle in the series.”

Fans getting enthusiastic to have a glimpse of the new GRC Beetle can get the first chance of the model in action in Austin, Texas at the Summer X Games.
