There’s no denying that the Beetle is one of Volkswagen’s best-selling cars. The current generation looks meaner, wider and has more appeal to all motorists. Last year I had the pleasure of driving one, and it’s such a brilliant hatchback!
Volkswagen is keen to expand on the success of the latest Beetle. One example is at this year’s New York International Auto Show. The German car maker unveiled four new concept variants of the Beetle. They are as follows:
Beetle Cabriolet Denim Concept
The first concept to get shown off by Volkswagen in the United States is the Denim Concept. It’s painted in a blue metallic stonewashed color and features a dark blue soft top hood. One of the curious things to note about the hood is that it’s made from a unique fabric texture. It reminds us all of the world’s most popular type of trousers: denim!
Beetle enthusiasts will doubtless remember that the first “Jeans Bug” made its debut in the middle of the 1970s. Since then, other jeans-themed special editions got released in the 1980s and 1990s. But none have got unveiled in the latest generation until now.
At the moment, the current generation edition is just a concept. But Jim from Hilton Garage reckons there will be enough interest in it to make it go into production!
Beetle Wave Concept
Painted in Habanero metallic orange, the Beetle Wave is a concept designed just for the American market. Volkswagen says that it reflects the American spirit of the East and West coast beaches.
It seems that the “spirit” also continues into the interior of the vehicle as well! That’s because it uses fabric patterns inspired by 1950s and 1960s design. VW also claim that the dash pad uses genuine wood, designed in a “traditional surfboard style.”
Beetle Pink Edition Concept
Want to look “pretty in pink”? If so, there’s no denying that you will fall in love with the Beetle Pink Edition concept car! It’s a model aimed at people that are style-conscious. The thing I like about this particular concept is that it’s not a “hot” pink. I don’t know about you, but hot pink is not one of my favorite colors!
Volkswagen says the Pink Edition Beetle concept is painted in Fushine Metallic pink. It uses contrasting interior and exterior elements. A striking blend of black, chrome and aluminum work well with this particular color. I can see this concept model making it into production, as it will attract a large following.
Beetle R-Line Concept
Last, but by no means least, we have the Beetle R-Line concept. If you’ve got gasoline coursing through your veins, and you’re a petrolhead at heart, this is the car for you!
Under the hood, it’s got a 2.0-liter TSI motor that’s capable of producing 217 horsepower! The car is painted in Oryx White and suits the model’s sporty-looking exterior. It also features sports bucket seats, and wrap-around body panels painted in high-gloss black.
