XL Sport was Volkswagen’s 200-millionth milestone vehicle produced


The Volkswagen Group is definitely one of the major automakers in the globe with its 106 factories and manufacturing units spread in 27 countries in the world. The German automaker manufactures everything ranging from motorcycles to commercial vehicles.

To celebrate its latest production milestone the automaker saved a really special car, which the company showed off during Volkswagen’s preview night ahead of the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The special car was the amazing XL Sport concept, which VW announced to be the 200-millionth vehicle built by the group.

VW stated in its release that the XL Sport “symbolizes the innovative power and passion of the brand.” This high performance evolution vehicle, which is an advance version of the super-efficient XL1, simply looks cool. The Sport is equipped with a V-twin Ducati 1199 Superleggera engine offering 197-horsepower fitted with seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The light weight XL Sport allows for a claimed sprint to 62 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds, while the top speed of the car remains at 168 miles per hour. However, being a concept car for now it is not sure whether the XL Sport will see the road or not.

The VW Group which reached its 100-million vehicle mark in 1999 with a New Beetle took just about 15 years since then to accomplish its mark of 200 million production vehicle. Moreover, during these 15 years time, Volkswagen not only acquired Porsche, but expanded heavily in China too.

According to VW Group Chairman Dr. Martin Winterkorn, “We are proud to have produced 200 million vehicles. This impressive figure also bears witness to our customers’ confidence in the Group.”

Mr. Winterkorn also donated French film icon Catherine Deneuve €200,000 for her charity foundation, “Cinema for Peace” during the VW’s preview night ceremony.
